Lately I’ve been feeling like the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. Running around with a clock and a to-do list. With all this craziness, there hasn’t been time to cook or bake. James and I have not gone to the grocery store in two weeks! We’ve pieced together meals here and there, and have gone out for meals way more than we ever have in the past.
And you know what? I miss cooking … a lot! Every once in a while we all say – ‘heck, we’re ordering in tonight. I don’t feel like cooking.’ But I haven’t picked up a skillet in two weeks and I miss the aromas, the sautee-ing, the chopping and of course, the results. I miss sitting down with James for dinner and talking about our day.
So James is out of town this weekend and I plan on baking up a storm. For who? For what? Who knows. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, baking (and/or cooking) is relaxing and therapeutic. Besides, this weekend is supposed to rainy and cold. So what better way to cozy and dry then to turn up the music, pull out the handmixer and whip up some breads or pies or cookies?!
So far I’m thinking: challah, aebleskivers and oatmeal coconut pecan bars
Any other suggestions? Hope all is well with everyone!
I’m trying two cookie recipes from smitten kitchen this weekend to bring to Taylor’s party, Consummate Chocolate Chip Cookies and World Peace Cookies (chocolate-chocolate cookies). Have fun baking!
